The Wastes :

2000 - 2018

The Wastes was the first love of my life. We were high school sweethearts, and I found myself returning to her oily embrace several times throughout my life.

I started working on The Wastes in 2000. Back then I had been dabbling between several different games and mods making "skins" and models, but I found the calling of my heart when I discovered Wasteland Half-Life. It was an absurdly violent end of the world playground and it hit all the right notes for me at the time. We eventually re-branded WHL to "The Wastes" to separate our world from those that originally inspired it.

We had intended to bring The Wastes to the HL2 Source engine, but the team had mostly dissipated, finding jobs in the industry, or heading to college, and the project faded off into a tiny cult following...

Years later it was rediscovered on old hard drives and servers by the team at Vera-Visions. They managed to contact as many of the former team members as they could, collecting as many original and un-released art assets as they could find, porting it to some odd version of the Quake 3 engine and have released the mod as stand-alone game on Steam.

I tried to deny myself, and to deny my feelings, but I could not. My love for The Wastes had not diminished during the years that we were apart. I have since begun to work with the team at Vera-Visions creating all new art assets, characters, weapons, vehicles, animations and sounds using the skills I have learned over the past 15 years in my professional career.

It is like slipping back into an old pair of shoes that you only stopped wearing because you bought a new pair of shoes. They still fit, they're still comfortable, and you still like the style, even if it may not be the height of fashion anymore. (Is this how I describe all of my old loves, and WHY I AM SO ALONE???).
